Greetings, SEMBOIA members and friends! The SEMBOIA board hopes you had a great summer and wants to welcome you back to our "26-27" educational year. On September 16th, our regularly scheduled monthly class will resume. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS THE 3rd WEDNESDAY OF SEPTEMBER. This will be a joint meeting with the Detroit AIA members. Please register early for this ICC-instructed class, as we expect a large turnout between the two groups. This will be an all-day in-person event. Doors will open by 8 am. Lunch will be served at noon. The business meeting will begin at 12:45 pm after lunch.
Class:2021 IEBC ESSENTIALS: Based on the 2021 International Existing Building Code

Approved Classifications: Building Inspectors, Building Officials, Building Plan Reviewers, & Architects
Course Objectives:
- Recognize the limitations and extent of the codes related to existing buildings.
- Recognize how the IEBC offers alternatives and incentives to building owners to maintain their buildings and to continue to initiate upgrades towards compliance with more contempory editions of the codes.
- Identify the three different compliance methods offered by the IEBC.
- Recognize the classifications of work associated with existing buildings.
- Identify fire protection systems that need to be upgraded.
- Recognize vertical openings that need partial or complete enclosure.
- Identify unsafe interior finishes that need to be replaced.
- Determine adequate means of egress.
- Identify needed accessibility improvements.
- Identify improvements to structural systems.
- Describe the compliance alternative tabular method of evaluating existing buildings.
- Identify thresholds that trigger additional requirements for the existing building.
Payment of $75 for non-members must be received no later than Friday, Sept. 11th @ 12 noon.
Registrations for all attendees must be received by Monday, Sept. 14th @ 12 noon.
